Here at the Ohio Valley Filk Festival. In about half an hour, Sabbath starts; in a couple of hours, I will be performing Gabriel Gray's Song in the Pegasus Nominees concert. this is the second time I should not be this nervous. ohgod.

Those of you who are/will be at the con: see you soon if I haven't already! (Those of you who aren't but wanted to be: I miss you. *many, many hugs*)

I will not be online more than sporadically between now and Monday afternoon/evening. See you all when I see you. Don't blow up the internets while I'm gone. <3

I participated in the [livejournal.com profile] purimgifts fic exchange again this year. Somewhat belatedly, here's the roundup:

I received three beautiful Joss Whedon ficlets from [livejournal.com profile] hihoplastic: And The Quiet Wanders Laughing, Ebb, and the wind whistles softly (about Illyria, Zoe, and River respectively), accompanied by some gorgeous photocollages.

I also wrote a three-part work of Vorkosigan Saga futurefic entitled "Untitled". (Yes, that's the title. Those who remember my Companion Pieces from last year's fic exchange will already be aware that I sometimes get entirely too clever in naming my fics.)

Enjoy. I know I did. :)
batyatoon: (BSG: bright shiny futures)
My first ever Battlestar Galactica fic. Set about a week after 4x14, "Blood On The Scales"; inspired heavily by the "Face of the Enemy" webisodes.

ChoaĆ )
batyatoon: (let there be light)
Promised I would post, this, so:

Okay. The four archangels, traditionally, are Michael, Gabriel, Uriel and Raphael. In SPN Uriel doesn't seem to be an archangel, but never mind that for the moment.

SPN meta behind the cut, inspired by and spoilery through episode 5x08, 'Changing Channels.' )

Hmmmmmm.
batyatoon: (the world is quiet here)
There's this meme that's going around. There's also the list of Books I Read In 2009.

I will do them BOTH AT ONCE. Because that is how I roll.

There's also a bit of SPN meta I keep meaning to post and haven't, and a BSG ficlet I keep meaning to post and haven't, but those will be separate.

THE MEME: Ask Me Anything! Taken from all over, wording slightly adjusted.

Basically, if there is anything you are curious to know about me because you are new around here/are old around here but feel like you should already have known it/have never gotten around to asking despite the fact that you know multitudinous other details of my life like what I eat for breakfast every morning, today is a day to ask it. (It does not have to be RL stuff necessarily! Fannish questions are fun too.)

I will not be offended by anything you ask but I fully retain the right to not answer questions, because sometimes I do like being a woman of mystery (and also, some things are none of your business even if I love you). Alternately, I may screen answers if for whatever reason I do not feel comfortable sharing them with the-internet-at-large.

THE BOOK LIST:
Cut because even people who love to read don't necessarily love to read a long list of books I read in 2009. )

That's 25 fewer books than I read in 2008. Maybe I should start keeping track of page count, too.
batyatoon: (gashlycrumb)
Back from Lunacon. Had no internets at hotel. Arrived home to discover that I had accidentally left myself logged into gmail all weekend. *headdesks* Sorry to those of you who were trying to ping me on gchat.

Going to nap now.
batyatoon: (bookhenge)
So I participated in the [livejournal.com profile] purimgifts fic exchange this year, and I'm pretty pleased about it. I got a delightful trio of Firefly and Farscape fics from [livejournal.com profile] waterdaughter (Time and Space, The Sacred and the Mundane, and Perihelion).

And for [livejournal.com profile] queenriley, using Firefly and Doctor Who, I wrote three Companion Pieces. With some graphics that I'm pretty proud of, especially the last one.

*smug*
batyatoon: (...duuuude.)
Saw Watchmen.

What I thought [WARNING SPOILERS FOR BOTH MOVIE AND GRAPHIC NOVEL WARNING]: )

Also! A meme, ganked from [livejournal.com profile] in_the_blue:

1. Go to http://www.googlism.com/
2. Type your first name into the search box.
3. Post your five favorite results.

My five favorite results: )

Try it out yourself! It's fun!
batyatoon: (chibi!)
So I never do these -- I always say "more later" and then never do -- and I think I should really start. To make it a bit easier, I will do my con report in the form of a series of bulleted lists.

Bullet time! )

Does anybody have any questions? Any answers? Would anyone care for a mint?
batyatoon: (the world is quiet here)
So a little over a year ago, I decided to keep a log of all the books I read in 2008. I'm pretty sure I missed at least a couple around the middle of the year, and I kind of decided arbitrarily not to include graphic novels or plays, but this is still pretty close to comprehensive.

The List! )

I'd given some vague thought to analyzing trends and patterns, but ... nah. (Anyone feeling compelled to analyze, however, is welcome to share!)
batyatoon: (undead monkey)
O my friendslist, I appeal to you! Particularly those of you who might have knowledge of period street songs from the 1660s, or who might know someone who does. (That's right, filkers, I'm looking at you.)

A friend of mine is involved in the production of a play that has a handful of these songs, and needs tunes for them: ideally the actual authentic period music, but period-sounding music that was composed more recently will do in a pinch. A further note: these are plague songs. Expect them to be accordingly, er, cheerful. (Hi, [livejournal.com profile] cadhla!)

Lyrics behind the cut-tag. (*mutters* Okay, NOW they're behind the cut-tag.) )

Once again: if you know a tune to any of these, or know somebody who might, please comment here! And feel free to boost the signal by linking here if you know any other good places to ask.

Thanks for listening!

ETA: As of this afternoon it looks like a source has been acquired. Thanks again to everybody who volunteered help!
batyatoon: (ut oh)
O my f-list, I turn to you for aid! ...In this case, for aid in collection of trivia, that skill at which so many of you excel.

I am trying to compile a list of fictional characters who self-identify as evil. (Ideally with a note as to whether said self-identification is ironic or not -- though this is, of course, subject to interpretation.) Said self-identification can happen at any point in the character's arc, but must be present self-identification; "I am evil," rather than "I was evil."

Starting with this guy! *points at new icon*
batyatoon: (bookhenge)
Been meaning to post a couple of memes lately. Most recently, from [livejournal.com profile] smallship1:

1. Comment on this post.
2. I will give you a letter.
3. Think of 5 fictional characters and post their names and your comments on these characters in your LJ.

Gimme an H! )

Anyone else want to pick up the meme? Tag me.
batyatoon: (unreal city)
So I have just seen Hellboy II.

I was avoiding spoilers before seeing it, so I missed a lot of my friendslist's reviews. Anyone write up anything about it I should see? Please respond here.

My own semi-spoilery initial-reaction incohering is behind the cut-tag. )

... no, I don't think I'm getting any more coherent than that tonight. More later possibly!
batyatoon: (proper respects to my people)
Am back from Contata.

There was so much awesome at this con I can't even begin to tell you. At least not before I've slept. All I'm saying for right now is that Con Chair [livejournal.com profile] ladymondegreen worked some bona fide miracles -- and that a few more miracles pretty much happened spontaneously.

Also, my pants are beyond bankrupt. If there was anything important since Friday morning, please assume I missed it and link me to it here?

Phil Foglio. Is selling some drawings. On eBay. That were to be for a proposal for a comic series based on Good Omens.

GO LOOK.
