Next drabble in the ongoing project: the other one they told me I'd never be able to make work.
Fandom: Marvel Comics (specifically the current X-Factor title)
Title: 23. How To Stop An Exploding Man
With every impact, he doubles. And he can't stop hitting the wall.
The calm, analytical part of him -- currently standing about five feet away, and watching -- is entirely aware of what will happen if he keeps this up. The cell's not that big, and its walls are stronger than their bones: we're going to die here. A duplicate screams at him in terror to stop it, stop it; another sits down in lotus position and closes his eyes; another turns away, muttering who gives a damn.
When his self-preservation finally manifests, in a dupe that shoves through the crowd of him to grab his hands saying "Jamie. Jamie. Get hold of yourself," it's the wording that gets through to him, that shatters the self-destructive fugue into jagged-edged splinters of laughter at the unintentional pun.
If it's unintentional. He's never sure, later.
