So about this week's episode of Heroes.
When Hiro and Ando teleport to a possible future New York (which my brain persists in calling a Projection -- I blame you,
adiva_calandia), we see considerable destruction; doubtless the aftermath of the Big Boom. But it's clearly been a while since the Big Boom, as around one not-too-badly-demolished skyscraper we see the bright orange scaffolding that means construction is being done. As
sdelmonte said while we were watching it: they're rebuilding.
The implications of that didn't hit me until about fifteen minutes later.
Nathan Petrelli is a New York politician. A New York politician who, as we know from the first time Hiro traveled to the future, won the election the day before the Big Boom.
When Linderman talked to Nathan, he spoke of a chain of fluke coincidences that would lead to Petrelli being in the White House, "a heartbeat away from the Presidency" (and heartbeats are such easy things to fiddle with, aren't they?), within two years.
And here's the kicker: Linderman knows the Big Boom is coming. Because he's been collecting the Mendez paintings.
This certainly explains why someone based in Vegas is cultivating a New York politician. Because what he's actually cultivating, in more than one sense of the word, is a President. How better to set up a candidate for the White House than by having him be a highly visible, highly capable leadership presence on the ground on the day New York City is hit by a massive unprecedented disaster?
I really, really wonder if the writers are doing this on purpose. But it was earlier in this very episode that
sdelmonte commented on the interesting resemblance between Nathan Petrelli and Rudy Giuliani.

(sidenote: every day this week, I've passed vehicles and such that say "Lindman" on the side. Not Linderman, but enough to make me double take every. single. time.)

Iiiiiinteresting.

Personally, I want to know how Ando got the security job so fast.
I hope there's another flashback episode.

But there could easily be some apocalyptic stuff in there!

There is something else I might say about that that has to do with this website (http://www.corinthianlasvegas.com/archive/index.shtml), which is a show tie-in site the lets you view a small selection of Linderman's collection (mostly of Isaac's paintings, some of which you can see during the episode). I wouldn't really consider anything there a spoiler but after this past episode image number 4 is certainly intruiging. I won't say anything else at the moment, but if you decide you want to check it out the password is "sword."
