OVFF/Sukkot

So as some of you already know, the Ohio Valley Filk Festival overlaps with the Jewish holiday of Sukkot this year.

If you don't know what either of those are or why it's relevant that they overlap, feel free to ignore this post, as it mostly assumes you do know and is of a practical rather than explanatory nature. (An explanatory post, if anyone wants one, may be forthcoming.)

If you do: read on!

I've gotten permission from the Dublin Clarion hotel to set up a sukkah in the courtyard for the weekend. Go me!

Next step: I'm pricehunting online for a popup portable sukkah. So far all I can find is the teenytiny one that seats maybe three people, but I'm told a bigger one exists.

Best price I can find for the teenytiny one is $169, here, and that's not counting shipping. Since we're in somewhat tight financial circumstances right now, we'd like to ask the help of anyone else who'll be coming to OVFF and would like to use the sukkah. If the tiny one's the only one we can get, we may have to use it in shifts.

So: sing out, folks! Who'd be interested in the presence of a sukkah at OVFF, and who's willing to chip in for one?

I'd chip in a bit. How fast do they get more expensive as they get bigger?

On a less practical note, that rocks, and now I really do have to write that song — or at least polish that spiel — about why Tolkien elves are Jewish.

The short version:

Imagine it's havdalah during sukkot. The Queen, who was here with us, has departed, her Presence again a distant yearning. Through the tangle of branches that make up the roof of the sukkah, you can just barely make out the stars. There's a certain song in a certain ancient language that immediately springs to my mind as perfect for the occasion.

If someone has a car, might it be easier/cheaper to just buy some wood and rope at the local Home Despot and lash the thing together?

There's a W C Fields pun here, but I don't suppose I dare...

And yes, I'd be interested in an explanatory post at some point.

Oh, and have you considered contacting, say, Hillel at OSU or a shul in Columbus to see if they can help?

Why not get something like this? http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=br_1_1/601-1126862-5148907?%5Fencoding=UTF8&frombrowse=1&asin=B00014VT3C

Adapt the roof and add greenery, and hang tarps for the walls.

Hey Batya. They get more expensive pretty quickly. The larger size of the PopUp sukkah is $259 for 4.5 by 6 feet.

I won't be at OVFF, but I hope you folks have fun. :)
