OVFF/Sukkot
So as some of you already know, the Ohio Valley Filk Festival overlaps with the Jewish holiday of Sukkot this year.
If you don't know what either of those are or why it's relevant that they overlap, feel free to ignore this post, as it mostly assumes you do know and is of a practical rather than explanatory nature. (An explanatory post, if anyone wants one, may be forthcoming.)
If you do: read on!
I've gotten permission from the Dublin Clarion hotel to set up a sukkah in the courtyard for the weekend. Go me!
Next step: I'm pricehunting online for a popup portable sukkah. So far all I can find is the teenytiny one that seats maybe three people, but I'm told a bigger one exists.
Best price I can find for the teenytiny one is $169, here, and that's not counting shipping. Since we're in somewhat tight financial circumstances right now, we'd like to ask the help of anyone else who'll be coming to OVFF and would like to use the sukkah. If the tiny one's the only one we can get, we may have to use it in shifts.
So: sing out, folks! Who'd be interested in the presence of a sukkah at OVFF, and who's willing to chip in for one?

On a less practical note, that rocks, and now I really do have to write that song — or at least polish that spiel — about why Tolkien elves are Jewish.

And yes. Yes, you do.
Also: hi! *adds you to buddylist*

Imagine it's havdalah during sukkot. The Queen, who was here with us, has departed, her Presence again a distant yearning. Through the tangle of branches that make up the roof of the sukkah, you can just barely make out the stars. There's a certain song in a certain ancient language that immediately springs to my mind as perfect for the occasion.

Make a guy out of it for Guy Fawkes day?

And yes, I'd be interested in an explanatory post at some point.

Adapt the roof and add greenery, and hang tarps for the walls.

I won't be at OVFF, but I hope you folks have fun. :)
