that bit of SPN meta
Promised I would post, this, so:
Okay. The four archangels, traditionally, are Michael, Gabriel, Uriel and Raphael. In SPN Uriel doesn't seem to be an archangel, but never mind that for the moment.
Gabriel's name means "God is my strength." This is a guy who, as Dean points out hasn't had the inner strength to stand up to his family; he's also a guy who as long as we've seen him has preferred to fight by trickery and subterfuge, not direct force. Maybe God is his strength ... but God isn't around.
Raphael's name means, roughly, "the healing of God" or "God has healed". Of all the angels we've run into, Raphael's arguably the most broken; and the vessel he's chosen is now a man living permanently in a hospital, never to be healed.
Uriel's name means "the light of God" or "God is my light." And Uriel's joined the darkness.
I'll be very interested indeed to see what they do with Michael, whose name means "Who is like God?" Because so far, like God, Michael has been conspicuous by his absence.
Hmmmmmm.

Maybe because Michael, as the big brother, is also the surrogate dad. Maybe Michael feels he failed in that role regarding Lucifer. Gave out the punishment, but that if he'd been wiser, Lucifer could've been saved. Therefore, he's not like (not as good as) his father? I'm liking this because it's a parallel to Dean -- "I had one job and I blew it."
