The future is comin' on

So. As I posted here nearly a year ago....

My filk group, Lady Mondegreen, is going to be the International Guests of Honor at the D'zenove Convention over the weekend of February 2nd through the 4th, 2007.

For those of you in the UK, this means I'll be on your side of the pond for about five days; for NY locals and those of you who generally only see me online, this means I'll be away for nearly a week. We're leaving New York on the night of Tuesday, January 30th; arriving in London late morning Wednesday, January 31st; spending a day or two at a hotel in Golder's Green; heading to the con in Basingstoke on Friday, February 2nd; returning to London on Monday, February 5th; and flying home on Tuesday, February 6th.

(We're not sure yet how we're getting from London to Basingstoke and back. Any Brits reading this, feel free to offer suggestions.)

Further plans, and further nervous/excited flailing, shall be posted as they develop.

That's great! Many congratulations!

You can get directly from London Waterloo to Basingstoke on the train, and it's not far so I shouldn't imagine it'll be expensive.

Will you have any time to spare over that weekend, should I happen to maybepossibly turn up in Basingstoke?

We will be doing day memberships which should be £10 for Friday or Sunday, or £15 for Saturday.

*bounces excitedly for you*

I wish I could go, but it's not in the cards. Have tons of fun, sweetie. :)

As [livejournal.com profile] villainny says, it's an easy train ride out from Waterloo. Waterloo and Golders Green are both on the 'Northern Line', but that disguises a few complications simplified with the phrase "Don't go to Bank". [livejournal.com profile] aunty_marion is just up the road from Golders Green, so her advice is likely to be best (and she's on the committee this year, I think).

So, so true.

From Golders Green you take a southbound Northern Line tube train, going via Charing Cross; do not, as [livejournal.com profile] vaurien says, take one via Bank. (The Northern Line has two branches at the top that join up and then split again and then join up again. Complicated...) That will take you all the way to Waterloo in one easy journey taking about 45 minutes maybe. From Waterloo, it's a mainline train to Basingstoke, taking about 45 minutes to an hour, and trains run every ten or fifteen minutes or so.

But do you go through Mornington Crescent?

You do.
