In a little more than six hours, we'll be going into the two-day holiday of Rosh Hashanah, the first days of the year 5767.
(i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun's birthday;this is the birth
day of life and of love and wings:and of the gay
great happening illimitably earth)
It's not a celebration, per se, this holiday that commemmorates Creation. It's a very sober observance; it's the beginning of the ten days of repentance that culminate in Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. It's a time when all humanity, collectively and as individuals, are judged by God -- and a time when, because we know this, we try to judge ourselves.
It's therefore a holiday spent primarily in prayer.
(Seriously, this is not too far from what it's really like. And ten days from now on Yom Kippur it's like that again, only without the "hydrate" part.)
Jocularity aside, though ... on a different level, it's also kind of like this.
If we're going to repent, genuinely repent, I think this has to be why.
More prosaically, that means I'm not going to be online again until Sunday night. I'll see you all then.
May it be a good year, new-come upon us for good. For all of you. For all of us.

I am friending you out of nowhere, if that's okay. I saw an icon you'd made that villainny was using. It was bookhenge. LOVE.
That, and I also live in Queens. ^_^

I wish I could take full credit for the bookhenge thing, but the fact is I only icon-ized a brilliant photograph someone else took. I really should find it again on getty so's to credit properly.
Also: woot! Queens represent! Er, or something.

That second cartoon is... wow. It's put all kinds of deep thoughts into my head that aren't resolving themselves in the space of this comment. Grace is a big, imponderable thing, and I don't know what I believe about it.
Thank you for posting that.

And you're welcome.
how does this dress look on me?
(Anonymous) 2006-09-27 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)I think it applies to a number of situations. I'm going to send it to my 17 y.o. daughter with whom frequently (constantly) I have issues.
