NY filkers: come one, come all

sdelmonte and I are hosting a housefilk! Israel-based filker nightface is in town, and we figured we'd better take advantage while we could.

This coming Sunday, September 17. Starting at 2:00pm, and continuing until 8:00pm or people get bored. Food will probably be limited to snacky bits; we are soliciting contributions of a kosher pareve-or-dairy nature. (Junk food with kashrut symbols is good, as are fresh raw fruit and/or veg.)

He shot me $5 on paypal towards being able to afford OVFF tickets a couple of years ago, and I still feel strangely guilty and grateful all at once because of it. I totally owe him about half an hour of custom concert, for that and other long-distance kindness over the years. :->

No guilt allowed, that's what friends are for. The fact that you are one of those friends whom I have not yet met in person is just a technical matter. Not that I wouldn't very much like too one of these days.

Honestly, it's not so much 'guilt', really, as that you've been so friendly and generous and I feel I haven't properly reciprocated, due to, y'know, distance and other mitigating factors. Most of the ways I 'pay back' local friends, or even just be generously friendly back at them, involve, well, presence (cooking, hanging out, singing for them, crafts, etc).

Oh, and I hope I don't cause offense when I say I'm not likely to come to Israel anytime soon, because of, well, the bombs and strife and so on. Kind of like how I don't intend to move to California until after their next Big One. Bombs and earthquakes terrify me all out of proportion to any actual risk of, y'know, dying from one.

Tornadoes, interestingly, I'm quite blase about on the emotional level, despite having been much closer to being caught in one than either of the preceding. Maybe because you can see them coming, or maybe because I know what to do to minimize my danger in the situation (go to a basement, stand in a doorway, etc etc).

i'm not a big lap-blanket person, sorry. I'm one of those who is usually too hot and then has the additional benefit of living in a semi-arid climate. At some point I'll just have to show up in your area and crash by you for a week or 2, and then I'll owe you plenty. :-)

I understand the Israel worries, though you will have to take my word for it that there is much less strife and worry etc. in our day-to-day lives then the media make it seem. But yes, there are still those plaques with eternal flames and lists of names in far too many places in my city.
