Happy Moon Day, everybody

Thirty-seven years ago today, a human being first walked on the moon.

Here's two things that perhaps best express how I feel about that.

Edited to add: I wrote the latter piece for a poetry workshop in college, about eight years ago. I'm struck upon rereading it by how dated it is; the space station Mir was still in orbit, and the Columbia had not yet fallen.
And at the same time, so little has changed.

I am such a wuss. The post concerning Columbia made me tear up, and it didn't help that Mal's Song was playing.

But I have another song, that's actually about the columbia, which always makes me sad, so it's not surprising that reading that post did as well.

But hurrah for the moonwalk, at least.

It's also thirty years today since the Viking 1 lander touched down on Mars. I suspect but can't prove that JPL picked the date on purpose.

Human contact with space is still in its infancy, and yet we've had so few triumphs. I am always happy when Moon Landing day comes around.

Wow, was that today? *runs off to add an ETA to post just made*

Your "Escape Velocity" still gives me a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes. Just beautiful (even if it does read a bit idealistic and oh so earnest now) but it's TRUE. *hugs*

Those make me feel small and that is in no way a bad thing.

I friended you. It's been so long since we talked/sang Stan Rogers songs in Manhattan that I feel I may be presumptive, but I did it. I hope that's cool.
